SCARAB ART CAR
We’ve just acquired Scarab, a stunning mobile sculpture of music and lights! With a 20-foot wingspan, a 14-foot-high DJ booth, and a 10-foot-wide open chill space, this incredible piece is more than just an art car—it’s a moving experience. Pushed along by a cantilevered chopped car, Scarab is a fusion of metal, speakers, engine, and fabric, designed to create unforgettable moments of connection and energy.
Scarab has been a gift to the citizens of Black Rock City seven times, rolled through numerous parades, and even made an appearance at the Intergalactic Art Car Festival in Las Vegas. Now, it’s part of our Off the Grid Campout family!

FAQs
How long does it take to build?
It usually takes a minimum of 6 people 6 to 8 hours. This time includes all of the electrical, LED and audio wiring.
How many people CAN fit?
Comfortably, the Scarab can take 14: two on the drivers bench, six up top and another 6 on the trampoline. We’ve probably had at least 18.
Where is the vehicle located?
OTG Ranch - Apple Valley, CA
What is the “base” vehicle?
It’s truly a custom fabrication. The third/back leg of the tripod is pushed by the front half (front wheel drive) of a 1995 Toyota Tercel (the back half has been removed). The front two wheels of the tripod are custom fabricated from the original real wheels of the Tercel. This trip forms the triangle that the 10’ trampoline sits within. This tripod is steered from behind.
Was this “The mothership”?
Yes. In 2015, Jon Zensius fabricated the original framework, tripod and crows nest that is now the legs and DJ booth of the Scarab. Since that time, the previous owners rebuilt the wings, added the trampoline and raised the driver to a bench seat position.
